Dad, Don’t Leave

I hold your hand, I want you to stay

I want your hugs, and I will pray

Can I come with you, is it safe?

Can I be there for you at the base?

Mom needs you and I need you

But she says my country needs too

Why do people fight daddy?

Why do people hate daddy?

Who are you fighting?

Are they monsters…

Or are they like me?

Weren’t they kids too ?

Did they mess up or did we?

Why Daddy? why?

Please stay and don’t die

In a far-off land that I can’t reach…

Mommy and me and my teddy

We will pray all night and day

Don’t go daddy…I need you too…

such a touching, heart-wrenching piece! i can feel the pain in those questions and the helplessness of having no answers at all.. fantastic write!

  11. hollyheir says:

Through the eyes of a child. So poignant, touching, and true. Surely in all these thousands of years we could find a better way..and the cynics whisper…in America, “it’s a business”…and we sigh and bow our heads. Thanks, Gay (@beachanny)

  12. that was so heart pulling…a great write but in no way a joyous piece…and the questions you asked are so right to be asked..thanks for sharing…pete

“Why, Daddy?” This is one of those horrible questions with an even more horrible answer. Very poignant one shot.
